It is not my day.
I have struggled with my nervous system for most of it.
I am grateful for practices such as dancing, lengthening my inhale, brightly scented hand cream and cold water.
It also seems that humming and upbeat music is uplifting, albeit a little anxiety provoking.

Virtual co-regulation or the start of something challenging
Some therapists believe that the pathway to secure attachment lies in healing of our dysregulated nervous systems. This is the realm of Polyvagal theory. It makes sense to me intellectually. However, engaging in the co-regulating practices through a computer screen this evening leaves me feeling worse than when I began the workshop.… Read the rest
an interesting and familiar experience in a chess game
It was such an interesting experience to find myself in a losing position in my chess game with my Dad tonight.
I was assessing my options, and all I could see, through all the different possible moves I could make was carnage of my pieces on the board.… Read the rest
opportunities to grow
Coming home is usually such a growth experience for me.
I tend to learn a lot about myself and how I have been impacted by our family dynamic.
Hopefully I can carry these lessons with me as I travel.
I could look back at what I wrote during my last visit and see if it helped me develop.… Read the rest
understanding men
It is so interesting to learn about male psychology and biology. I am noticing that I perceive men in such a different way as I build this knowledge. I see them ‘from their point of view’ rather than through a woman’s lens.… Read the rest
seeing value in less obvious ways, perhaps
The second thing that came out of the conversation with my psychologist friend today was a bit of professional development.

I spoke to a psychologist friend of mine today.
Two things came out of the conversation.

The interesting experience of angry energy
As someone who has little to no experience with the emotion of anger, the opportunity that comes with perimenopause is quite rewarding. The ‘big eff off’ energy is so interesting to me. It is energising in ways that I have never experienced a lot of before.… Read the rest
the sickening experience of late night social media
Social media leaves me feeling so conflicted sometimes. The strange mixture of people telling you how you should feel about yourself, friendships, relationships, work and life in little consumable quotes, videos or poems; combined with videos of people screaming at you about ways they want your money, and sometimes a funny joke, or maybe 1 or 2 posts from friends in one doom scrolling session.… Read the rest
not being aware of the rules of an environment
During the course of the past two days I have become a little more aware of the person I want to be.
I want to be the kind of person who is able to direct a conversation into a safe place that brings pride to the other person, and makes them feel like they are a little stronger to face the next challenge.… Read the rest
